How strong is your friendship with your friends? Are they close enough to considered family? How far are you willing too go to give them what they want no matter what it is? I was thinking of these questions after I seen a movie about, My guess is, friendship. Though it has “gang” violence in it. In one scene, these two friends, were jumped by a different gang. But this other guy, who just left a rival gang, to help them. To repay vynn for helping them out, they became friends, melvin and shaun promised to help him with what ever her wants. Vynn says he wants help to find a place where he can commit suicide. So as promised, Melvin, Shaun, and Vynn went out looking for the perfect place to commit suicide. Now I love my friends and am willing to help them in any way I can but helping them find a place to kill themselves isn’t something I would ever want to do. Though I promised before hand. But breaking promises isn’t something I like to do either. I would have to know my friends situation before making my final decision. If and only if I don’t see any other choices, then I would keep that forsaken promise.
The ending scene of the movie also got me questioning these boundaries. It’s was Melvin and Shaun having a little argument about Shaun having aids and not saying anything about it. But Shaun’s lip piercing was bleeding and Melvin leans down and licks the blood. He says that they are brother to the end. If Shaun dies then they would die together. This is where I’m thinking am I as close to my friends like what I just saw? I would like to think so. I would give my life for my friends if needed. But I also have to think about my family and other friends I would be leaving behind. Would they think I’m stupid for doing something like that? Or noble for putting my loved ones life before mine? All I can say is that some will be mad, hate me even. But most would be sad for my passing. In some eyes I am the hero. In others I am selfish. All in all, how far are you willing to go for a close friend?
